A Kelpie day

I’m house-sitting in Falkirk for a couple of weeks, so when a friend asked if I wanted to enjoy a day out, it seemed that visiting something local would be the way to go. When she suggested The Kelpies, I was really excited as I hadn’t seen them yet.

The Kelpies are a massive public art installation at The Helix at the start of the Forth and Clyde Canal. I’ve been wanting to go for quite some time, and as I’m so nearby at the moment it seemed like the perfect time to make it happen. And as the weather was absolutely gorgeous, it was even better! Of course, the company is what really made the visit wonderful!

So that’s The Kelpies, but now you might be wondering just what kelpies are. Well, kelpies are mythical shape-shifting spirits living in the waters of Scotland. They appear as horses rising from the water, but can also appear in human form. With the strength of 10 men, kelpies were known to prey on humans who dare near the waters. But despite their less-than cheerful mythology, I think it’s fair to say that most people in Scotland love The Kelpies.

There are a few photos for you to enjoy if you’d so like a better look at them.

Anyhow, I am looking forward to a productive summer with my PhD and am planning to make a point of enjoying a few nice days out, too. After all, one of the keys to productivity is being emotionally and mentally healthy! So hopefully there will be more great things to share here, too!
