A nice cuppa tea and a sit down

When I got home from work today, I realised that I’ve not enjoyed a nice cuppa tea and a sit down after work since my last workday before Paul died. And I realised that I sort of missed that little bit of downtime between arriving home from the office and making dinner. So, I filled the kettle and set it to boil…

I’ve enjoyed tea in the past year – but on the weekends when I’m sitting on the couch watching television. This evening was not that. As part of my new cable-free lifestyle, I enjoyed my pot of oolong tea with a couple of slices of homemade banana bread whilst listening to the soothing sounds of Miles Davis.

I realised instantly that it’s not as much fun to enjoy a cuppa without someone to chat with, but I’m sure that I’ll soon find comfort in sitting on my own.

In the meantime, I’m going to try to remember that I always enjoyed this part of my day. A chance to unwind and enjoy a nice, hot cuppa tea – and maybe instead of telling Paul all about my day, I can tell Schrodie. I’m certain that she will listen intently and impart words of wisdom when needed…

(Oh no! I’m starting to sound like a crazy cat lady!)

Come and share a pot of tea; my home is warm and my friendship’s free.

  1. I’m sure Schrodie doesn’t mind if you become a crazy cat lady. Ok, maybe not too crazy. Or crazy in good ways for cats.
Keep at the tea ritual, you will find it soothes in time. Being comfortable with your own company is a real skill and I know you already have it much more than many people will ever achieve. I’m proud of you, and I know Paul would be/is too.

  2. Thanks, Rebecca. It’s funny, I used to be super-comfortable with my own company. (Being habitually single helped.) Then I met Paul and it took a while to get used to sharing my space. I guess I got ‘too’ used to sharing though.
As for Schrodie, she’s taken to ignoring me lately. I don’t think she likes the funny voices that I use to speak to her. (I think I may be as freakishly-weird as the cat is!)
