Denmark bound!

I am off on my travels again. This time, I am heading to Denmark for the 2016 Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIST) Annual meeting in Copenhagen. The adventure is largely supported by a grant from the John Campbell Trust, and my school is making up the difference. Just one of the (many) wonderful things about PhD student life!

The programme is quite full so I expect to be going full-speed for much of the time I’m away. Between student-specific meetings (including a doctoral colloquium to which I made a successful application!) and the main events, I will be up early and to bed late every day. But I am feeling quite energised about the opportunities that these next few days will bring. I am especially keen to start talking to other academics about potential post-doctoral collaborations. (You didn’t think I was going to stop after the PhD, did you?)

I have been feeling really positive about my PhD these past few weeks, and I hope that being surrounded by so many fellow Information Science academics will help keep my motivations going. Especially as my three-year mark of starting my PhD is just one month from today. And even more so because I am hoping to be submitting the final draft of my thesis in less than six months. (If all goes to plan, I will be Dr Ryan in July or November 2017, depending on when my final-final thesis is accepted in relation to graduation dates.)

So yes, I’m Denmark bound! But unlike last month’s trip to Croatia (photos herehere, and here), I will have very little free time to explore the environs on this journey. But I am hoping that I might manage a wee tour around the city at some point. At the very least, I’ll manage a few happy memories!

But for now, I must finish packing our bags so that I can get to the airport!
