January in March

I have finally managed to complete my first race of 2013 as part of my Race a Month Challenge. The race, the Buchlyvie 10K, was meant to take place on 26 January but was cancelled due to ice, so I’m still counting it as my January accomplishment. (I think that’s acceptable.)

When I did the same race last year, the weather was miserable. It was awful and dismal and enough to make me wish I never laced up. But today’s race was actually pretty good – weather-wise and performance-wise. In fact, when you consider that I haven’t run a race since October – and I haven’t done any runs over four miles since then – I think I did an amazing job.

My official time was 1:02:07 which is very respectable, although slower than I’d like. I think I will set myself a goal for sub-60 in my next 10K, which will hopefully be the Round the Houses 10K in Grangemouth if I can sort transportation.

Oh! This brings me to the public shout-out portion of this post: Thank you to my friend, John, for providing transportation for me today; especially as his car took ill on Friday, meaning he had to borrow his aunt’s car to help me out!

Anyhow, I’m feeling good about getting out there and I’m hoping that it will be the kick-start I need to ramp up my training again. After all, I still have my February and March races to complete so that I can get back on track.

And, as always, you can check out my race photos here!
