Random memories: Why green?

My favourite colour is green and has been since I was a young child. I’m sure most people know that, but I doubt that anyone knows why. Well, today I’m going to tell you!

It all began when I was 5 or 6 years old. I was at home with my family and we had company over. For some reason, I decided I wanted to know what everyone’s favourite colour was.

So I started making the rounds asking the question (oh, those annoying children and their questions!). The responses were all over the place: Blue, green, pink, black, and everything in between.

When I asked the question of my Daddy, he replied “green”. And I responded along the lines of “Me, too!”

I sometimes wonder if green really was/is Daddy’s favourite colour, or if he was just giving a random answer to shut me up. But from that moment on, my favourite colour has been green. Even though I had never really given it thought before then. After that, it was green, green, green!

I know why, that’s simple: I have always looked up to my Daddy. Simple as.

But I admit that I sometimes wonder what my favourite colour would have been if I hadn’t asked the question. I mean, I love green. I really do. But do I love it out of habit, or out of true affinity? I don’t know. And, to be honest, I don’t know how I’d tell.

I know that I like other colours. In fact, my closet is filled with a rainbow of colours. Maybe more purple than I like, so I know for sure that purple is not a favourite. I don’t own many green “home décor” items, but that’s because I don’t own many home décor items anymore. I tend to pick things based on the pattern rather than the colours, to be honest. (I love polka dots and fun floral prints!)

What I do know, however, is that I am drawn to green things. Green is my go-to accent colour. Pens, highlighters, iPods – you name it! And if I had more money, I’d have lots of jade and malachite jewellery, too!

So to summarise: Why green? Because my Daddy said so!

  1. Green is a natural, vibrant colour, full of life. So a pretty good match for you I’d say 🙂 Ho-Ho-Ho!

  2. Yep! I knew where this post was going…And I guess I should be really honest now. Blue has always been my favorite color, but I now find myself gravitating toward ALL the primary colors and adding two of the secondary colors, too. Red, Yellow, Blue! They’re all wonderful. And the oranges and greens are beautiful, too. Purple? Not so much. In the end, most of my favorite art work probably has a combination of blue and green…with pops of color. Mother Nature at her finest! (“For every girl in forest green”)
