Substitutiary locomotion

Back in the day, kids’ movies were pretty gosh-darn awesome. So much so that (I think) they’ve survived the test of time. Movies like Pete’s Dragon (one that my sister and her kids watch regularly) and all of the Hayley Mills movies. And then there are things like Mary Poppins, The Apple Dumpling Gang, and a long list of Disney’s theatrical animations!

In fact, just the other day, I was walking in town and caught myself singing Brazzle Dazzle Day. Then when I woke up this morning, I saw my sister’s Facebook posts from the night before – yes, they just watched Pete’s Dragon again! Then, when I looked to see what movies were available on the BBC’s iPlayer, I was giddy with excitement to see Bedknobs and Broomsticks (which I’m watching now)!

So, my wish for you is that you have a brazzle dazzle day thinking about the childhood movies that bring you the most joy.

And I wish for you the gift of substitutiary locomotion so that you can veg on the couch watching those movies, all the while casting spells so that you don’t need to walk to the kitchen to refill your snack bowls and drink glasses!

  1. I guess we’ll be watching Bedknobs and Broomsticks tonight, now that you’ve got me thinking about it.
And The Apple Dumpling Gang is another on our family faves list. 🙂
New Year’s Eve will be spent with popcorn and some of these most awesome movies!!!

  2. I was sure I knew where that was from (your title) B&B was one of my favorites! It’s true they don’t make them like they used to when it comes to family entertainment…don’t get me wrong the new Disney/pixar & other movies of today have their place but there’s a reason that every Holiday season we are still watching the same 1950’s terribly animated films 🙂 I can’t wait until my son is a little older to more appreciate the full entertainment of B&B, Mary Poppins, Parent trap, pippi longstockings, The little princess & orphan Annie etc. etc. etc. (I could go on forever)
