Working swirls

I’ve finally completed my latest swirl drawing. It’s one that I started way back in December for a friend who was embarking on a life-changing journey. It seemed to me that I couldn’t be there to hold her hand, but that I could be there for her in my spirit – and with each swirl, I thought of her and sent her all of the positive energy I could muster. (You can see the completed swirl here.)

Much of the work took place whilst I sat on the couch, which means that my coffee table has been littered with coloured pencils for some time. But that’s not a problem in my mind! In fact, my couch and coffee table have become quite the workspace for me over the past few years as I swirlcrochet, or write letters to family and friends back home.

But every once in a while, I do my swirling as I sit by the window soaking up the sun’s rays. This is what I think I’ll do now whilst I think about how to start my next swirl project – one that I’m creating for an art competition at the end of February.

And I should start thinking about the other swirls I’ve been asked to make, too. And one day, I might even start to think about that blanket I started to crochet way back in October …

Oh! And the photo with this story, if you wondered, is my submission for The Brooklyn Art Library’s Encyclopaedia of WorkSpaces project.
