Caching Oban: A west coast weekend

The first time I was in Oban was for a quick lunch stop as part of a bus tour with my best friend, Rachel, when she came to visit me way back in 2002. I’ve been meaning to return for a while now, so when my friend asked if I was up for a weekend break to Oban I couldn’t say no! After all, there were a few fun geocaches I was hoping to find!

I met up with my friend in Glasgow on Friday and we made the scenic drive to Oban by way of Tyndrum and Glen Coe, stopping for photos and geocaches along the way. We then spent the evening relaxing with a nice dinner before checking out the hotel’s hot tub and sauna.

Yesterday was spent walking around Oban collecting more geocaches. We put in nearly 10 miles of clambering up steps and hillsides and along the shore of Oban Bay. One of the caches was at McCaig’s Tower which gave us fabulous views of the town. A second one was up a hill across town that gave us amazing views of the bay over to the Isle of Mull.

On the way home today, we stopped at a wee cove north of Oban where my friend had spotted a boat wreck on a previous outing. And on the way to explore that more, we found the coolest ram’s skull overlooking the sea. Wow!

Anyhow, it was a lovely weekend away with a great friend. But, as always, I am glad to be back home for a wee rest! I’ll be off for more adventures next weekend, too, so stay tuned for more great photos!

      1. Hi Frances! First of all happy birthday and all the best for your next year! 🙂 Yes, you should come to Germany, we have a huge Geocaching scene here – and the way of caching ist quite similar to the UK. In October I went Geocaching in Scotland, it was really great.
So best regards and ´happy hunting´
        Matthias
