Where blooms the sweet bluebell

Today is the start of a four-day weekend for me* so I’ve made a concerted effort to get out of the house so that I don’t spend the whole time hidden away in my room. So I asked my housemate if he was up for a wee walk somewhere.

Since my housemate is an avid walker, it wasn’t hard to entice him to head out. (And I think he wanted an excuse to not mow the lawn!)

The walk was through Bilston Wood, not far from the Roslin Glen I’ve spoken about before. The area (also called Bilston Glen) is well-known for a massive tree-sit campaign to save the woods from being destroyed to make way for a by-pass. It is also home to the Bilston ViaductDryden Tower, and an amazing blanket of bluebells.

Of course, it was the bluebells we were there to see. And to smell. I mean – wow! – you could really smell them. It was heavenly and I wish I could share the scent with you. There was also a massive field of wild garlic that had a wonderful scent, especially as I wandered through to get a closer look at an old wall in the middle of the field.

I’ll leave the photos to tell the rest of the story, and will ask forgiveness once again for not appropriately naming all of the pretty nature-y things.

Note: The title of this post comes from lyrics in the traditional Scottish song, Blue Bells of Scotland. (If you wondered.)

* It’s a four-day weekend in that the office will be closed, but I will actually be getting (at least some) work done at home on Monday and Tuesday. I’m a good girl like that.

  1. OMG. I somehow missed this post. They are so beautiful. I have quite a few of these hyacinths in my yard. Every spring when I start to mow, it makes me sad to mow them down, but I know if I let the grass go, it will get so long I will have a terrible time getting it cut. I always think I should move the bulbs to a spot I don’t mow, but I never seem to make the time to do it. Fields of garlic? Love it!! Thanks for sharing.

    1. Oh, yes! The fields of wild garlic are amazing! The scent was so lovely (as was the scent from the bluebells). I wish I could share the smells like I can share the photos!!

Always happy to share photos with you and Mum. In fact, most of the times I’m out snapping photos, I look for ones I think the two of you will like!!
