Starting my summer 2025 holidays

Once again, it is summer holiday time! And yes, once again, I am in the Homeland to enjoy the season. Here’s hoping the weather cooperates all summer long!

My flights were rather uneventful (that’s the norm for me, thankfully) and the journey was simple, with a couple minor glitches (as detailed). I decided to skip my pre-flight prosecco in favour of a simple espresso to complement the bananas I brought through security, which resulted in glitch number 1. (Note for the future: Bananas require extra screening due to their high potassium levels.)

Glitch number 2 was a little more irritating. I have noticed for a while that my rolling carry-on was a little harder to pull, and whilst walking through the airport, it became increasingly worse. It turns out the rubber covering on the wheels was coming apart. But, thanks to Dad’s pocket knife on arrival, I’ve removed the rubber from the hard plastic wheels, and the bag now works as new. Fabulous! (The bag is 10+ years old, but I still want to keep it going for longer!)

But if those are the only glitches in a 24-hour day of travelling, I can’t really complain!

There are talks about road trips in and around Washington as well as a bit further afield. And there are already plans in the making for a fun little hike with a couple of my nieces and some fun day-out adventures with my Godson.

I know that there will be plenty of chores for Dad around the house (and it sounds like some prep work for his project truck). And I know that there will be lots of running and geocaching. And lots of fun with family and friends in general.

But for now, I am simply resting and recovering from my travels so that I can be ready for a busy Fourth of July weekend. Yes, the next few days will be filled with celebrations to mark the start of my home nation – all whilst hoping the current administration doesn’t cause the absolute downfall of the country and the world!

Let the holidays begin!
