A slow start
It’s nearly midnight on January 2nd and I’m finally getting around to writing my first post of the year. I meant to write yesterday and I’ve been meaning to write today, but life got in the way.
Sadly, yesterday’s lack of writing was due to the sad parts of life. Everything is OK, but I think that a bit too much Champagne the night before led to a sulky-feel-sorry-for-myself kinda day. Yes, I was pretty pathetic, to be honest. Got out of bed around 8 but was too upset and teary to face the world so I went back to bed until nearly noon. Then I finally got up and sat on the couch sulking all day.
I know it sounds like a miserable start to the new year, but sometimes my mind goes into sulky mode and I just can’t bring myself out of it. On the plus side, however, I did manage to roast a chicken for an early dinner and even managed to boil up the leftovers for a big pot of soup. So at least it was a semi-productive day!
But today was better. Today I actually got up and took a shower and left the flat. In fact, I was out for longer than I’d expected! And it was a nice day. I went up to the Wallace Monument with a couple of friends, then we had lunch in Bridge of Allen, stopped by Doune Castle (you know, the one from Monty Python and the Holy Grail), and finally made it back to Stirling for a couple of pints of beer and a football game.
And when I got home I swirled. And I packed a small suitcase. Because I’m heading to England tomorrow to see my in-laws for a few days.
So, this post is really to let you know I’m alive and to also let you know that if you don’t hear from me for a few days, it’s because I’m down south doing fun things. Which will be even better since my sulky mood has passed.
I hope your new year is off to a less-sulky start than mine!
Okay, when I first read that you put all the leftover chicken into soup, I was disappointed. What about the yummy chicken sandwiches? Then, when I read that you are heading for England, I understood. I hope you have a wonderful time with the family down there. Give them all my love and simply enjoy your time with them!
Well, actually I didn’t use all of the leftover chicken for the soup. I boiled down the carcase then added a couple small bits, but the I chopped up the breast meat to freeze separately so that I can make chicken nachos or enchiladas. I don’t know how they’ll work with cooked frozen stuff, but I’ll find out!
By the way, I love the way your new swirly is coming along. Beautiful colors so far!
Thanks! This one will be all blues. I did an all green thank you card the other day and it looked nice, so I thought I’d see how a monochromatic one worked on a larger scale.
You are and continue to be just awesome. I’m sorry New Year’s day was tough for you, especially when you helped to make mine so unbelievably fantastic, but glad yesterday was more fun for you. Have fun with the family and see you when you’re back

I thought your swirly was done, a Frannie rendition of a beautiful butterfly (it is beautiful by the way) so I can’t wait to see what it transforms into! Also did you take a photo while at the Wallace monument for our dear friends??!! Knowing them, I would only assume that they came from the same Great Lineage 🙂 Hope you have a lovely & safe trip South…
